Hi! Here’s a simple guide on how to replicate succulents through propagation:
1. Choose a Propagation Method
You can propagate succulents using leaf cuttings, stem cuttings, or offsets (baby succulents).
Leaf Cuttings: Works well for rosette-type succulents like echeveria.
Stem Cuttings: Best for succulents with long stems like jade plants.
Offsets (Pups): Ideal for succulents like aloe or hen and chicks, which naturally produce baby plants.
2. Remove the Cutting or Offset
For Leaves: Gently twist off a healthy, plump leaf from the stem, ensuring a clean break.
For Stem Cuttings: Use sharp, sterile scissors to cut a 3–5-inch section of a healthy stem.
For Offsets: Gently separate the baby plant from the mother plant using your hands or a clean knife.
3. Let the Cuttings Dry
Place your cuttings or offsets in a dry, shaded area for 1–3 days (until the cut ends callous over).
This step prevents rot when planted.
4. Plant in Well-Draining Soil
Use a succulent or cactus mix or create your own by mixing potting soil with sand/perlite.
Lay leaf cuttings on top of the soil.
Stick stem cuttings upright in the soil.
Plant offsets directly in the soil.
5. Water Sparingly
After planting, wait a few days before watering to avoid rot.
Then, mist or lightly water the soil once a week until roots form (2–4 weeks).
6. Provide Proper Light & Care
Place in bright, indirect light (avoid direct sun at first).
Once established, follow normal succulent care: water deeply but infrequently.
After a few weeks, your succulents will grow roots and new plants will start forming!
